Medical Weight Loss
Have you tried to lose weight, but never had any real sustainable success? You’re not alone. Losing weight isn’t easy. For many people, it’s more than just eating less and moving more. It’s more than just motivation and willpower.
Medical Weight Loss focuses on understanding the underlying conditions, medications and lifestyle behaviors that may affect weight loss efforts, and offers a comprehensive treatment plan based on your unique needs.
All employees, regardless of medical plan enrollment can visit the Well for support on their weight loss journey. Medical Weight Loss services are part of the UnitedHealth Group medical plan and are offered at select Well clinics* to employees and their spouses/domestic partners who are enrolled in an eligible plan, including the HSA-eligible plans, Primary Care Plan, Premium Physician Plan, Kelsey-Seybold Primary Care Plan, Accountable Care Plan, Fairview Primary Care Plan, Bind, Doctors Plan or WellMed 1st Tier.
How It Works
Medical Weight Loss begins with a medical assessment to identify possible contributing factors to weight gain and/or weight loss challenges (e.g. medications, certain conditions, etc.) that are many times overlooked.
The assessment and lab results are used to deliver a comprehensive, personalized care plan that may include a combination of medical interventions (such as weight loss medication), nutrition changes, exercise recommendations and emotional support.
Practitioners are trained and supervised by one of the leading experts in the field of Obesity Medicine, Louis J. Aronne, M.D., Director of the Comprehensive Weight Control Center (CWCC) which is part of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism at Weill Cornell Medicine.
Medical Weight Loss is evidence-based treatment supported by years of medical research focused on the prevention and treatment of excess weight. It also includes ongoing treatment oversight by a physician who is board certified in obesity medicine.
Associated Medical Weight Loss visits and labs completed at the Well are available at no additional cost to those enrolled in an eligible medical plan. Select medications for weight loss are covered under the medical plan.
The UnitedHealth Group medical plan covers certain non-invasive, non-surgical treatments for weight loss. The company is planning to add additional covered services to Medical Weight Loss including some bariatric procedures later this year in select markets. If your care provider has recommended or you are considering a bariatric procedure, consider starting Medical Weight Loss treatment since it will be a required component of any bariatric treatment plan.
